ABOUT US

Late Bloomer Music is the product of a long and continuing collaboration between Austin songwriter David Spence, Nashville producer, recording engineer and songwriter Denny Martin, and the supremely talented singers and studio musicians of Nashville.  That collaboration has produced a sizeable catalogue of recordings featuring the work of elite Nashville studio musicians and vocalists, all produced at Denny Martin Studios.

In some ways these songs are throwbacks to the folk-rock and singer songwriters of the 70s — songs that blend beautiful melodies and thoughtful lyrics, rooted in the kind of Americana music that fuses country, blues, folk and rootsy rock. These are songs inspired by whatever genre would claim the likes of Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, Brandi Carlile, John Prine, Nanci Griffith, James Taylor, Sara Bareilles, Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams and Jackson Browne.

Denny Martin’s stable of veteran Nashville players makes these songs come alive, injecting a special kind of energy and personality into these songs. His band deserve their own name, like “The Wrecking Crew” or “The Section.” (Somebody ought to get on that.) And the Late Bloomer artists who sing these songs are gifted performers who deserve to be heard.

There are a lot of magical voices and beautiful songs that don’t find their way into the Nashville hit- and star-making machine.  The artists who sing these songs are not household names, but even a cursory listen will confirm that they are gifted vocalists whose power and personality shine through in their performances. They give life to the modern Americana songs you will find here. We hope you enjoy them.
